Gauri and I grew up in Mumbai and went to LTM medical school. I vividly recall her appearance in our medical school, as a ‘grand junior’ or GJ (year 1), managing to look very intelligent, pretty and sophisticated all at once. Decades later, half a world away, we settled in Bellaire, built homes, practiced full time and raised daughters. As we both juggled work and home, we only met sporadically ( for example, shopping in Garden Center!) or socially. The closeness I felt to her was only by dint of having observed her with admiration over decades. Someone I always meant to catch up with and have chai and discuss our shared experiences and what a ride it has been. I put it off too long. A gut punch. Miss you Gauri! Always felt SO proud of you! You shone in everything you did, and your light and beauty lives on in all of our memories, in the love of your patients, your family, your friends and above all in the remarkable daughters you raised with Atul. Wherever you are now is surely better for your presence.
